A total of 37 people have been killed after a tour bus plunged off the road into a ravine in Malaysia.

In what is believed to be the country’s worst ever road accident, a further 16 passengers have been injured and taken to hospital.

The bus, carrying dozens of passengers, crashed in the Genting Highlands in Pahang.

The area has Malaysia’s only legal casino and attracts many domestic and foreign tourists.

The nationalities of the victims have not been confirmed but survivors included Malaysians, Bangladeshis, Indonesians and Thai nationals.

Transport on the road near the crash site is reported to be restricted.

The driver was among those killed, reports said.

Authorities have begun an investigation into the crash.
